What's everybody doing?

My neighbor has been doing really good.  He took away another over 1,600lbs of engine parts and blocks this morning.  Today he started organizing parts to go out to the steam cleaner this week if the weather allows.  Who knows what the weather will do around here any more.     Parts are everywhere and they all need to be dealt with before starting on the next 5 pallets of engines.  One pallet with 9 BB Wheel Horse Kohlers on it is already in the shop but as you can see in the pics there's no more room for parts.  After everything is steam cleaned, a lot of it can be put up as is, and a lot of it will be blasted and put up later.

I've been piddling with Carson's 121 and doing other misc things that need to be done while mainly waiting for a good painting day to finish up most of the paint on Carson's.  Someone is coming up from TN next week to rebuild a deck that I have scheduled but that will take less than a day.  

 

2 More round hood rollers were parted down last week that were in the 4 car garage.  It's nice to not have to move them around to get to things any more.  When all is said and done most of the round hood parts will be on the 4 post rack near the blaster.  That will be another crazy undertaking...   

Neighbor is still going on engines and helping with rearranging.  A lot of rearranging got done early this morning while it was cool out.  The last 4 pallets of engines in the 4 car garage were taken off of the pallet racks toward the back wall and put toward the front so they're easy to get to.  Most of the tires and rims from the shop are in the 4 car garage on the back wall now where the engines were, and there's extra room out there.   He started on another pallet of engines today from the 4 car garage today.  1 pallet is full of rebuilt engines out there so that one will just be brought in the shop and put on a pallet rack.  All of the engines and engine parts will be in the shop when this is all over with, I need to get to them a lot more than tires and rims.  

There's a lot of empty space on the shop racks now that will be where all of the engine parts will go.  Things are looking a little better every day thanks to finally having some help.  

I spent a lot of the afternoon getting some other little things blasted for Carson's and gathering up new parts needed to do the next things on it.  I'm hoping to have it running tomorrow and having all of the sheet metal on it minus the hood and rear fender.  

 

My friend Kevin was up here on Sat and he helped me get some much needed things done around the property that need to get done while the warm weather is still here.   

My neighbor finished up the pallet in the last post and started on another pallet last Friday, it should be done today.  More bad Onans with valve seats hanging out, one in the second pic got so hot it seized up several bolts that broke off in the block.  He found a Kohler with an extra big hole in it and other interesting things.  I figured a lot of the engines were not good because they were given to me with other tractor purchases but there are a ton of good Made in USA parts being taken off of them, more than I will ever need and that is super nice.   

He has taken off almost 3 tons of stuff so far not including the last few pallets so it's been a good payday for him, and a good amount of stuff taken away from here that has needed to be done for many, many years giving me more desperately needed room.  

 

My neighbor finished up the 6th pallet of engines yesterday.  There are only 3 pallets left but 1 pallet is 4HP, 1 is 7-8HP, and the last pallet is mostly Kohler big blocks tagged as rebuilt or runs good.  That is the end of engine stuff for now until I build an engine testing station to run engines on hopefully next week when Carson's 121 is done.  Been wanting to do that for a very long time anyway...  

We got to some pallets on the racks in the shop and he worked on finishing up a pallet full of front axles after lunch.  Most of them were torn down and wheel axles organized by type.  The left side in the pic are long frame housings and the right side is short frame and a lot of old round hood axles.  We also gathered a bunch of other axles from different places around here that were already off and got them apart and on the same pallet.  After that I got the steering gear pallet down and we went through all of them and threw away anything that wasn't very good.

I kept some questionable stuff when I started this and all of that is now going for scrap.  I only kept good parts. I was surprised to find a bunch of steering supports on the steering pallet.  I'm glad I kept them because I can rebuild them now.  They will all be good after they get steam cleaned, bored on the mill, and fitted with the new bushings.  I'm a little proud of my self for scrapping about 7,000 pounds of stuff so far.  I'm trying to do better...  

 

What am I doing you ask...  Making another big mess that will make more room, it's what I constantly do.   

I figured a few hours after 5 today and most of the day tomorrow will be clearing and redoing the 4 post rack/shelf.  It's a real rats nest up there and I couldn't get to hardly anything.  I started finding stuff up there that has been there 10 years or more that I didn't know was up there.  A lot of the stuff I found I knew was here over the years but couldn't find it.  Now I know where it ran off to, buried under other things while in a hurry to work, work, work.    

It's been 105-110 or more out in the lot for all this week with pretty much no wind.  It's even been to hot for me and that's rare so we've been keeping busy in the shop where it's cool.  It's been 2-1/2 weeks since the last mowing so that has to get done in the morning.  It won't be too bad now but there's possible rain coming in tomorrow night and it will all thicken up and come back to life again making a real mess.  

This job will include a lot of rearranging but it will go pretty quick.  

 

I pushed myself to the limit today and thankfully had my neighbor to help this afternoon.  

It's been 2-1/2 weeks since the last mowing.  I was on the mower at 8:30 and it took 2 hours to mow mine and the neighbors, it was a lot taller than I thought, again...  The crab grass was about 2 feet tall around the buildings, and other places needed it so I spent over an hour weed eating at almost 100 degrees and no wind.  That was done a little before lunch and I was spent, but there was a lot more I wanted to get done today.

I found a spot for the Fastenal metal racks that made a ton of extra space.  They are at a 90 on the end of the lift/shelf as seen in the pics.  That made so much room that the cars could be moved over a bit and angled a little more to make even more space in the runway.  Even with 3 more pallets, 2-4 wheel wagons, and everything else that was in the shop taking up floor space there is still way more room than there was.  The only things taken out of the shop were the 2 small crates that had shelves in them.  They are now in the 4 car garage.  I can also still get the forklift in and out of the shop.  On top of all that the lift/shelf is almost empty.   

The blaster is going back where it was only it will be facing the overhead door this time with the vac still behind it so I can get to all the metal in the racks.  All of that was rearranged too.  The one up against the wall is empty on that side and I can still get to all the fastenal stuff on the other side of the other one from the lift/shelf. 

I am overjoyed the Lord answered my prayer on how to make the most room in reorganizing this stuff today, and at other times.  I am truly blessed and overjoyed and everything is above and beyond what I expected.
